Curriculum This year in Year 5 we will be studying the themes of:
Australia – moving people, and Weather- in the Autumn Term
Egypt/Morocco  - Myths, Legends and beliefs- in the Spring Term
North America -Here and Now and Mission to Mars- in the Summer Term

Children are required to produce a detailed project in the summer term based on space.

Numeracy - place value, space and shape, measures, developing their understanding of the four written methods and applying them to word problems.

Literacy - developing their understanding of sentence structures and ways to improve their writing. Children will be writing stories in the style of a well-known author as well as writing and following instructions, looking at traditional stories, persuasive writing and film writing.

Science -  Children will be planning and carrying out their own investigations and studying topics: Keeping Healthy, Life Cycles, Gases around us. Changing State, Earth, Sun and Moon and Changing Sounds.

Homework

Homework will be set as and when required by their teachers. Children should make sure though that they read every night and know their times tables. Children have homework diaries and parents can sign these.

Generally children have literacy and numeracy homework once a week.
